Children are the Future . . .

Port Stephens young community is the future of our area, and children growing up in this area have much to be thankful for and to enjoy. Many events are held for children in the area and the natural wildlife and environment make way for a great start in life.

There are a lot of things for kids to do and be involved in the area; holidays supply an abundance of activities and shows catering for children. The many parks and nature reserves help to educate the children on various aspects of animal care and environmental issues and schools in the area are always actively involved in these many events.

It’s a friendly family oriented community and considered a safe and healthy atmosphere for children growing up here. The Schools are many and the University of Newcastle is within an hour’s drive from Lemon Tree Passage.

Surf lifesaving plays a big role in the lives of the children from the area and many events evolve around the lifesavers with some of the strongest clubs in Australia being within the community.

There is much art and dance offered in the community and sports also play a vital role with the children here. In true form with the first inhabitants of the area the children are in love with their wildlife and are activy involved in all events pertaining to the wildlife, koalas, dolphins and whales which visit twice a year to frolic in the beautiful waterways.

In a recent visit to Port Stephens by the NSW Commisioner, she opened her speach saying: "Children really do have a better insight into the needs of the environment and Planning bodies and agencies, such as local councils, need to be prepared to consult with kids, involve them in the planning processes and feed results back to them so kids know their views have been listened to when developing child friendly communities".
